Hello!

Life is meant to be shared.  I am looking forward to sharing a life filled with love and happiness with a newborn baby.  I have the time in my life and the room in my heart for a child.  Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself and tell you a little about my life.  I hope this will alleviate some of your concerns and help you feel more comfortable with your decision.  I admire your strength and courage.  I am impressed by your desire to do what is best for your baby.

About me…

My name is Melissa.  I have a very rewarding career in the teaching field.  My students are always drawing pictures for me and writing notes which are very dear to me.  I love my job, but my greatest desire in life is to be a mom.  I have traveled to the Bahamas, Mexico, Arizona, Florida, Pennsylvania, the Catskill Mountains and the seaside towns of Mystic and Norwalk Connecticut.  My other interests include photography, making personalized greeting cards, creating scrapbooks, cooking, baking, cake decorating, making candy, taking walks, charity events and reading.  People often compliment my warm personality, my love of life and my friendly smile.  I can’t wait to share all of this and more with a child.

My home & community…

I live in a lovely suburban neighborhood on a safe, quiet, tree-lined street.  There are many families with young children living here.  We are in a top-rated school district and the location provides wonderful opportunities for colleges and career paths.  I live minutes away from beautiful beaches for swimming and peaceful harbors where we could fish and take boat rides.  I am also near aquariums, amusement parks, museums, orchards for apple picking and farms for selecting the perfect pumpkin for decorating.  There are parks nearby for feeding the ducks, playing with friends or riding bikes and fields for Little League baseball games.  It is the perfect place to raise children.

My family…

I grew up in a loving home with caring, devoted, nurturing parents.  I have fond memories of my childhood and family experiences.  I have a brother and sister who live nearby with their families.  We are very close and spend holidays together.  They are looking forward to a new addition to our family.  Although I have not met “Mr. Right” yet, I hold close to my heart my dream of being a mother.

Adoption has already touched my life.  My niece was not born into our family biologically, but has grown as part of our family through love.  Not only did my brother adopt her but our entire family has adopted her unconditionally into our hearts.  She is so special to us!

My nieces and nephews are very special to me.  I spend a lot of time with them.  Our adventures include going to the park, playing ball together, apple picking, attending children’s musicals, trick-or-treating at Halloween, going to baseball games and taking my niece to cooking class.  We also spend a lot of time baking - one of my hobbies.  Recently I baked cookies with my nephew for a teen baking contest.  We won “most creative” for the second time.  He was so excited.  I am so proud of them when I attend their dance recitals, cheerleading competitions, concerts and school or camp performances.

My friends & fun times…

I have the greatest friends.  They are supportive, always there for me and a lot of fun to be around.  We go to movies, concerts, fairs, craft events, picnics and barbeques.   New York City is only a car ride away.  We enjoy seeing Broadway shows, the lovely art at the Museum of Modern Art and the dinosaur exhibits at the Museum of Natural History.   There is nothing more magical than New York City during the holidays.  My friends and I love to see all the beautiful displays of sparkling lights and visiting the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree as the snowflakes fall from the sky.  It creates a truly wonderful holiday season.

Parenting…

I have learned from my years of working with children that each child is special and unique.  They learn, grow and progress differently.  It is our job as adults to guide them and provide structure as they learn by doing and experiencing the world.  We must be their advocates and provide opportunities for success.  I also try to teach by example.  My students make cards for sick children in hospitals, send letters of appreciation for our veterans, and our school holds food drives and holiday gift donations for families in need.  I share with them my experiences outside of school helping adults learn basic literacy skills in order to improve their lives.  My students have taught me patience, compassion and how encouraging words can impact a child’s life.  I feel I am ready for the joys and challenges that parenthood brings.

I look forward to teaching my child the importance of honesty, kindness, education, pursuing your talents and working hard to achieve your dreams.  I hope to share with him/her happy memories of times spent together, family traditions that we look forward to year after year and the heartwarming feeling you get when you are home.

Adoption…

I belong to a fantastic adoption group.  We meet each month to hear information about adoption and share wonderful stories from people who have had successful adoption experiences.  They also have social events where adoptive families can get together and have fun.
We recently had a lovely picnic at a park.  The children
had a great time.  I have developed many close friend-
ships with other members of the group.

I will always tell this precious child how I wanted him
or her more than anything else and the courageous choice
you made to make our family happen.  I assure you I will
love this child with all my heart.  I consider adoption a
cherished gift and will always speak fondly of you and
of your loving decision to bring together a family.

Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and
getting to know me better.  I would love to share
more with you and also learn about you and the
dreams and hopes you have for your child.  I look
forward to speaking with you.

Melissa
